I liked:
- The thumping techno soundtrack in the opening
- The way that whole opening thing is made
- How professional the main two presenters sounded, expressive and clear
- Much of the editing in general - interviews with the public, transitions etc
Not so hot on:
- Sound getting a bit hammy around the international student ID problems section
- Filming the screen for the bit about the queen
- The item about the Queen in general really, but I guess that's only because it personally doesn't interest me. Treason, right?
- The sports bits, but again, refer to the above.
- The name for an interviewee being flashed too quickly to read
- An awkward silent gap between the presenter speaking and a shot panning out through some houses
So yeah, my criticisms seem centred around little bits of editing and subject matter which didn't tickle my fancy. The second one is obviously less important, as I'm probably in the minority of British people that don't care about footy or the Queen. I would mention the spelling errors in the sports results but I don't wanna kick anyone while they're already down from what I heard, its a bit mean.
I'll finish this by saying that I really can't wait to be a part of WINOL, with the vain hope that I'm not just going to be cannon-fodder in the blogs of next years freshers. I guess we'll see.
We needed to film the screen as it was the only way you could see the Queen due to safety reasons. She's the most well known person in the Country, if not the world. -Society will always be interested in the Royals, it all started in the early 1900's with the birth of the first British Tabloid The Mirror.
ReplyDeleteEvery second year is involved with WINOL, either as a reporter, production team or editor. -The people you see on screen at the moment will do this job until Christmas and then swap round -A lot of behind the scenes work is done; maybe ask Chris if you can sit in on the WINOl team next week so you can get a feel for what roles there are?
One of the roles we won't put you forward for will be Royal Correspondent!
ReplyDeleteGood analysis - but try to critically evaluate even the sections that you're not too keen on. But it's a fair point to make that not everyone is mad about sport, or at least football - so that represents good audience feedback.
Good to hear you're looking forward to working on Winol - if you'd like to come down some Wednesday drop the Editor, Catherine Hayes, an email to check there's room.
Useful comments. There will be ways to contribute material to WINOL (and associated online magazine as well). But we are setting up the central bit at the moment.
